Morocco's participation in the World Cup of 1986 wasn’t a surprise at all, yet it was the result of hard work from very skilled players that showed a high quality of soccer skills in the African cup and the African championship. Some Moroccan players were part of the first wave of African players in Europe (Krimau and Amanallah played in France the time El Haddaoui and Bouderbala played in Switzerland.).

The power of the Moroccan team didn’t come only from the players, but from the coach Jose Faria as well. He knew how to select the best players for the positions and how to combine local and international, new and experienced players in a well organized team playing modern soccer.

Morocco in 2nd Round for the first time (World Cup 1986 ) :
The Moroccan team made it to the second round of the world cup in 1986 as the first African and Arabic team to get to this level of competition.
In the first game against Poland, the Moroccans showed that they were ready to achieve something in the World Cup; they were there to compete against the best teams in the world. The teams performance in the first game was an alarming signal to England and Portugal. The Moroccan team was strong defensively with the skilled goalkeeper Zaki and the good defenders Khalifa, Lamriss, Biyaz and Bouyahiaoui. They were also very dangerous offensively especially since the team had the best Moroccan player of all the time, the midfilder Dolmi who always made sure that the strikers of the team got the maximum of chances in front of the other team's goalkeeper. The Moroccan team played with more than one striker, so that many players could get a goal at any moment.
The Moroccan team played almost the same way in both games against Poland and England. They played good but cautiously. Both games were a tie which made the third game against Portugal very important. It was the Moroccan's chance to be in the second round of the World Cup. This was their unique chance to realize the African continent's dream and they achieved it.
With a latino Moroccan soccer style, Jose Faria took his Moroccan team to the second round after winning against Portugal 3-1. The game was the Moroccan's since the start with a star, with Khairi the Moroccan who got 2 goals against Portugal.
